Abu Dhabi Weather is characterized as sub-tropical and dry, with blue skies and sunshine dominating conditions for the best part of the year. Unsurprisingly, Abu Dhabi Weather owes its patterns to its geographical position; straddling the Tropic of Cancer the emirate is nestled in the shallow waters of the Gulf, therefore retaining a somewhat cooler disposition, at least in comparison to its neighboring countries.

Another distinct feature of the weather in Abu Dhabi is the relatively sparse rainfall it experiences. With the notable exception of ‘Oasis City' of Al Ain (situated close to the Hajar mountains, Abu Dhabi’s second largest city enjoys considerably higher levels of precipitation), the emirate experiences a meager 12 cm of rainfall per year. Most of the rain falls during the winter season, with January being the wettest month of the year with an average of 22mm of rain, March following at a short distance with an average of 17.7mm. In sharp contrast, precipitation is almost non existent during the long, hot summer season, and most specifically between the months of May and October.

Abu Dhabi Weather is notable for its four easily recognized seasons.  Winter falls between the months of December and March, during which time weather in Abu Dhabi is at its most pleasant and bearable. Although during the day, blue skies and warm weather still predominate, and mercury usually remains around the 24°C mark, by night temperatures take a nose dive, usually hovering around 10°C.  As mentioned earlier, winter is also notable for its increased levels of precipitation, often falling in the form of heavy storms. On the downside, another common feature of Abu Dhabi Weather is the regular appearance of fog, which is often so thick it reduces visibility to a meager one meter, making driving hazardous, often forcing officials to cancel flights in and out of Abu Dhabi International Airport.

When April rolls in, it also signifies the emergence of the spring season. This is actually a transitional period that runs through to May, typified by a sharp ascent in temperatures that finally peak at an average of 26.4° C. During this period weather in Abu Dhabi is very similar to conditions usually associated with areas situated in the Mediterranean, patters repeated again between October and November.

Thanks to the emirates geographical position, Abu Dhabi Weather during the long summer season (June to late September) is usually an unbearable beast.  And if the soaring heights mercury often reaches weren’t enough, the added high levels of humidity make living conditions even harder, and as a result the apparent feel temperature appears to be higher than it is. If however the last sentence appears to be rather comforting, make no mistake: summers in Abu Dhabi do get unbelievably hot, with temperatures usually hovering around 40C, often peaking at above 45C. Night time offers some sort of consolation, but only slightly so as mercury levels drop but not significantly so, resulting in quite uncomfortable living conditions, especially if you happen to find yourself outdoors.
